Motivation to Lose Weight

On New Year’s Eve, you took the resolution that by the next new year you would be successful in losing weight. Though the first few weeks after you went on a diet and started going to the gym were good, soon you started feeling bored and fell back into your old habits. Moreover, this has not happened to you for the first time. There have been many instances earlier where you have tried to go on a weight loss program, but failed. Each time you would think that there was something wrong with the diet you opted for or the gym you joined. However, whatever you tried, you could never reach your goal. Do you actually know why this is happening to you? The answer to this question is ‘lack of motivation’.

Motivations is the most necessary factor that helps us in reaching our goals. The same applies to weight loss. By taking a decision to lose weight, we are actually setting a target for ourselves. However, if our reason for taking such a decision is not clear, there are high chances that it would go hay wire sooner or later. Here are some weight loss motivational tips that you would find helpful.

How to Get Motivation to Lose Weight?

  • The first step towards weight loss is finding motivation to lose weight. Taking a piece of paper, sit down and think about why you want to lose weight. The reason for this can be different for different people. For some, the reason would be to stay healthy and avoid the occurrence of any diseases, while for others it would be to look good and attract the members of the opposite sex. Also, there are people who want to lose weight just so that they can enjoy playing certain sports like football, skiing, etc. Whatever the reason may be, it is important that you are truthful to yourself at this stage. If you are not, there are chances that you would not be able to reach your target. Your reason for losing weight is your motivation to weight loss.
  • Once you have decided on your motivational factor, set a goal for yourself. Now, there are many people who make a mistake at this stage. Most people have an image of some celebrity or model in their mind and aim to achieve a body like theirs. Though there is nothing wrong in having a role model, one must understand that every person is different, and how much ever you try, there are also certain genetic factors that determine the shape of our body. Hence, it is important to set your goals in a realistic manner. Do not think of shedding all the extra calories in a month or so. Remember that such things are not possible and would make you feel demotivated. Set a weight loss target like ‘I would lose 15 pounds in two months’, and work towards achieving that.
  • Another factor that takes the person away from his weight loss regime is the diet he follows. There are many people who go on a crash diet while trying to lose weight, where they try to starve themselves for long hours. However, rather than losing weight, they end up either being unwell and start craving for food so much so that they cannot stop eating at all. So people who are trying to lose weight should not go on a crash diet, rather they should opt for a healthy diet which gives them all the required nutrition. You have to chalk out a diet plan for yourself where you have to mention what and how much you would eat each day during your weight loss regime.
  • Sometimes, people get bored of doing the same exercises over and over again, making them leave their weight loss programs eventually. If this is happening to you, the best way to avoid relapse is to bring variety to the exercises you do. Along with the cardiovascular and muscle building exercises that you do at the gym, you can include aerobic exercises and dancing in your exercise regime. Taking up walking and jogging to the nearby park occasionally would also be a good idea.
  • Decide on a reward that you would give yourself when you reach your goal. This reward can be anything, but make sure that it something that you really love. You can buy clothes to suit your new figure, buy a book that you always wanted, or go on a short weekend trip. Setting a reward for yourself would also act as a motivation for you to succeed in your target.

These tips on motivation to lose weight would surely help you in achieving you goal. Remember that losing weight is not an easy task, but is not impossible too. Having a positive attitude and confidence in yourself would surely lead you to lose weight successfully.
